Summer of the Laterose by chichapie Summer of the Laterose by chichapie
The casualty of the Laterose Summer Wars.

Basil Stag Hare, Jess Squirell with Silent Sam, Cornflower, Log a log, Ambrose Spike and Constance despairing over the dying Father Mortimer as he beckons Matthias.

(The design of Constance is based on the comic book)

Wow! Thanks alot for the DD :iconstormpenguin: and for everyone's strong and lasting support for the redwall universe :)

Summer of the Laterose by ~chichapie

A very touching and emotionally sad feeling over their loss of their father. I could just feel the sadness. I also know they feel the exact same way about their author. This DD is for you Brian Jacques! We love you and you'll always be our hero! You have done yourself great and you can be proud of yourself as we are proud of you! Rest in peace and may you always hear the whisper of wings. <3

As the brain-child, Father Mortimer, shall rest in peace, so too shall the Abbot of all Redwall's Abbots rest in eternal peace...

Sam is too cute for words! His cuteness level almost makes me forget what a sad scene this is, but not quite. I always cry at that chapter.

This picture is so well put together! The atmosphere in the background(like on the wall) is kind of sunny, but where Father Mortimer is it's more sad and grey.

I love all the little details in this, especially the fur shading and the expressions. You even give us a glimpse of the defeated Cluny under the bell.
Beautiful piece, and congrats on the DD! ^^ You deserve it.

Hey, is this from the Tale of Desperaux? Idk, the mouse looked familiar for some reason, and I never read the books, plus I'm a dumbass at times, so excuse me if I fail to recognize the characters.

This is amazing. Rarely do I even find art for Redwall that actually has a deeper meaning than the initial image. There is so much emotion, so much story behind this single image. All of the Abbey dwellers are hanging their heads in sorrow, yet all eyes are on Matthias, signaling the passing of power from one mouse to another. Matthias is young, inexperienced, and shocked. He is sad, but all he can see before him is the world of leadership he is not yet ready to take. And to add the final touch, the lateroses hidden in the shadows, symbolizing not only the casualties of the war but also Rose, the maiden who fell to a blade so that one day Martin would find his way to Mossflower and aid Abess Germaine in the founding of the Abbey.

Bravo. I don't give favorites to just anything, but you earned one.
